- The Hagerman National Fish Hatchery (HNFH) is currently seeking a temporary Fish Technician to aid in daily operations which include fish husbandry and culture, data management, and facility maintenance. This position is an 8 month assignment, includes competitive benefits, and will work forty (40) hours a week. Work schedules may include weekends and holidays. HNFH is located just outside the town of Hagerman, ID and about 30 mins from Twin Falls right along the scenic Snake River. The hatchery is responsible for rearing 1.5 million steelhead and 40,500 rainbow trout annually. Smolts are raised from eyed eggs received from Sawtooth Fish Hatchery in Stanley, ID and released back into the Salmon River. Both hatcheries are funded by the Lower Snake Compensation Plan. There are ample places for fishing, hunting, water recreating, ATVing, in addition to many other outdoor opportunities around the valley. Job Description: With reasonable accommodations, the incumbent must be able to perform routine fish rearing duties at an anadromous fish hatchery. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Recording hatchery data; weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning and sweeping raceways; maintaining grounds and equipment; crowding and netting fish; loading and unloading trucks; Maintaining a partial reuse aquaculture system; safe chemical use; and other associated tasks as assigned. This position involves standing and working in cold water and for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; and working in inclement weather conditions. - Qualifications
- Preferred Skills: Demonstrated ability to handle responsibility and work independently. Course work in a Natural Resource/Biological Science is strongly preferred but not mandatory. Previous fish hatchery experience is a plus, but not required. Candidates with course work and/or previous experience will be given preference. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
