Description
Turner Enterprises, Inc. is a private land management and conservation organization with a mission to manage Turner lands and surrounding landscapes in an economically sustainable and ecologically sensitive manner while promoting the conservation of native species. The Turner Aquatic Biodiversity Program is seeking qualified individuals to work as fisheries technician during the summer of 2018. Two positions are available for summer 2018. The positions will start beginning of June and end mid-September to mid-October (variable end dates). Successful applicants will work as a team conducting stream surveys, native species restoration, fish population monitoring in pond and stream environments, aquatic & riparian habitat work, amphibian surveys, and other related duties as assigned. A substantial portion of time will be spent traveling around MT, and to NM, NE, and SD for similar work. This job will include extended travel (hitches lasting up to two weeks), hiking, and extensive use of backpack electrofishing equipment. The position is based in Bozeman, Montana, but may require travel for up to a week or more at a time to assist with ongoing aquatic management and conservation projects at other locations.
Qualifications
Applicant must be willing to work long hours, mostly outdoors, and at times in inclement weather conditions. Those hired should to be able to lift 40+ lbs. and hike several miles with 35 lbs. pack without complaint. Applicant is responsible for housing while in Bozeman, Montana. Lodging and food will be provided when traveling or in the field for extended periods; however, that may include tent camping (basic camping gear provided). This position offers opportunity to gain valuable fisheries field experience, opportunities to network with state and federal agencies, as well as expand and compliment an existing knowledge base as it relates to conservation and restoration of aquatic ecosystems. Related experience is helpful, but not necessary. Work ethic, attitude, and enthusiasm for this type of work is essential for hire. Hourly rate will depend on experience ($11-$15). Overtime is paid at 1.5x regular wage. Interested applicants should feel free to email or call with additional questions.
