- POSITION: 2 positions: Fisheries Technician START & END DATE: April 3, 2023 – November 30, 2023 PAY RATE: $17.55/hr depending on experience and education LOCATION: Meeker, CO - State housing available. JOB DESCRIPTION: Employees will primarily be part of a field crew conducting non-native fish control operations on the Yampa River. This work entails using flat-bottomed outboard jet boats to navigate and electrofish the river during runoff. Employees will help inventory and monitor cutthroat trout populations in streams and lakes. Employees will assist biologists with monitoring fish populations in other streams, lakes, and rivers in Northwest Colorado. Employees will collect data during agency sponsored fishing contests. Employees will be responsible for entering and organizing field data and gear maintenance. Certain duties will entail hiking, backpacking, and camping in remote areas. ***Employees will be frequently out of town during the work week and overnight travel will be required. Employees will also be expected to work irregular hours, including weekends, as needed.***
- Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license, the ability to swim, heavy lifting (up to 60 lbs), experience operating boats and towing trailers, interest in biological sciences, the ability to work well as part of a team. Additional desirable qualities: ability to identify both native and sport fishes of western Colorado, a mechanical aptitude for repairing generators and outboard engines, training and education in a field of biology related to natural resource management, a love for hard work and the outdoors.
