About the position The Department is seeking a temporary Fisheries Technician to work out of Coeur d’Alene, assisting with the Lake Pend Oreille Recovery Project Predator Suppression Program. Position Available/Dates Needed: One four month non-benefited technician -Approximately September 6th, 2018 through December 14th, 2018. General Information: Applicants must, with or without reasonable accommodations, work in inclement weather for long periods of time, handle live and dead fish, stand/work in cold water for long periods of time, and lift/carry up to 60 lbs. Schedule will typically be 40 hrs/week (Monday–Friday), but work schedules may vary. Some weekend or holiday work may be required. Duties and Responsibilities: Incumbent’s primary duties will be working daily aboard a commercial fishing vessel on Lake Pend Oreille helping commercial fisherman with gill net surveys for various native, non-native, and threatened fish species. Incumbent will be responsible for all survey data collection aboard the fishing vessel. Incumbent will manage associated sampling data and equipment, and be familiar with common fish sampling and marking techniques. Incumbent will be expected to perform periodic data summaries and may also be expected to assist with laboratory analyses and sample preparations.
Qualifications/Skills: It is preferred that applicants have (or are currently making progress towards obtaining) a B.S. degree in fisheries management, ecology, or related field; or equivalent in training and experience. The ability to maintain a positive attitude and uncompromised work ethic through uncomfortable conditions is very important. Experience collecting and managing scientific data is preferred.
