Responsibilities: Seeking an applicant to aide in ongoing Walleye and Rainbow Smelt research in Lake Oahe, South Dakota. The applicant will manage a work extensively tagging Walleye, and assist with other research activities as needed, including hydroacoustics, larval trawling, snorkel surveys, and zooplankton counts. Applicant will be based in Brookings, SD, and work a non-standard schedule, including weekends, as field work requires. Start date is April 1, end date is September 30.
Qualifications: Experience with scientific data collection, motorized boat operation, trailering, and safety. Experience with fish netting, otolith extraction and aging preferred, but not required. The ability to work independently and an excellent attention to detail are a must. Candidates should have good interpersonal skills, as angler contact is a major part of the job. Applicant must be able to lift 50lbs on a routine basis, a proficient swimmer, possess a valid drivers license, and have completed/be working towards a bachelors in a fisheries-related discipline.
