American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Fishery Biologist to review the Blue Ridge Parkway's draft fish plan and analyze management actions. The position will also assist with brook trout restoration. There may be an opportunity to accomplish some of this project remotely. Living Allowance: ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $720/week to offset the costs of food, housing, and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS. Position Description: The purpose of this project is to technically review the Park's draft Fishery Management Plan and begin to analyze the management actions proposed to determine environmental consequences. This project will have a final report component. The Member will develop publications and social media posts so they must be able to communicate technical subject matter to non-technical public and staff. The project will also involve some field work. The member will assist in the restoration of brook trout at one of three streams in the North Carolina section of the Parkway. They may also assist with some wetland surveys. As a secondary objective, the Member will begin to make some decisions about long-term monitoring, both of fish and other wildlife. They will review old and develop new Study Plans. Physical demands: This position will require the Member to be in good physical condition since streams are difficult to access. Competitive applicants will have a degree in fisheries and wildlife management, ecology, natural resource management, parks and recreation or other related disciplines appropriate to the position. Required: Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner. Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group. This position is funded through the Public Land Corps Act which has specific program requirements. Must be 21-30 years of age to apply (members must be 21+ to apply for an ACE position that requires or anticipates operation of agency or ACE vehicles for duties).
