Description
Springfield Fish Hatchery is a production facility responsible for rearing Endangered Species Act listed Snake River Sockeye Salmon. The Springfield Fish Hatchery is seeking one temporary Fishery Technician (Benefited) to perform routine duties associated with fish culture. The selected candidate will be heavily involved with collection and organization of baseline data generated during incubation and rearing of up to one million Sockeye Salmon smolts. General Information Incumbents must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to stand and work in adverse weather conditions, sometimes working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work all shifts including a weekend rotation and some holidays. Dormitory style housing is provided on site, but not mandatory. Most work days are from 7:30am to 4:00pm and generally work 20-40 hours per week. Responsibilities Routine duties are, but are not limited to: weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning and caring for fish in rearing units; assisting other hatcheries in spawning adult Sockeye Salmon; fish health monitoring; measuring water quality and maintain equipment; data collection; data entry; sampling fish; assist in report writing; maintaining grounds and equipment; operating landscaping equipment; power washing raceways; cleaning offices and hatchery facilities; assist with occasional field work which can require travel and overnight stays.
Qualifications
Applicants must be able to work well in a team environment and independently as needed, take direction and follow protocols effectively, and handle responsibility. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Fisheries/Biological Sciences or related field is preferred, but not mandatory. Fish Hatchery or Fisheries related experience is also preferred, but not required.
