The Department of Natural Resources excels at protecting and managing Wisconsin’s natural resources while supporting the economy and the well-being of the citizenry. Within DNR, the Division of Forestry works in partnership to administer programs that protect and sustain our forested lands throughout the state, combining technical and financial assistance, planning, research, technology, education, and policy to help meet the many demands on the forest both today and for many years to come.
To help achieve our mission, we're seeking strong candidates with demonstrated leadership skills and a solid knowledge of forestry to serve as Forestry Team Leaders. Current opportunities include:
• Black River Falls Team Leader (located at the Black River Falls Service Center
This position is currently approved to be filled. We anticipate that the successful candidate will start this position in February 2021.
• Wautoma Team Leader (choice of either Friendship Ranger Station or Wautoma
DNR Office). This position is currently on hold. We anticipate that the successful
the candidate will be hired within in the next six months.
• Wausaukee Team Leader (choice of either Pembine Ranger Station, Wausaukee
Ranger Station or Peshtigo Service Center). This position is currently on hold. We
anticipate that the successful candidate will be hired within in the next six months.

The Forestry Team Leader is responsible for the first-line supervision and management of the Division’s integrated programs for the assigned geographic area. The position reports to the Area Forestry Leader and supervises foresters and forestry technicians performing the full range of field work related to forest management and forest fire management. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining healthy partnerships.

These positions are granted Protective status as a result of their duties in active fire suppression. These duties require frequent exposure to a high degree of danger or peril and also require a high degree of physical conditioning. Therefore, the selected candidates are required to meet and maintain the physical fitness test standards defined for all DNR Protective-status positions.
Selected candidates must be able to obtain and maintain Forest Ranger law enforcement credentials within 18 months of hire by attending on-the-job training and becoming certified.
Selected candidates must meet the requirements for traveling and operating a State vehicle, including the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Selected candidates will be required to pass a background check prior to an offer of employment.
DNR does not sponsor work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Applicants must possess the following required qualifications to be eligible for this position:
• Forestry experience related to both forest fire management and forest land management

• Integrated forestry experience in fire management, public lands management and
private lands management
