Description
We are seeking an organized FOIA specialist to support the NOAA Fisheries Office of Sustainable Fisheries. Having high attention to detail and the ability to manage short project timelines are critical skills for this position. Potential candidates must also possess the curiosity and ability to find solutions and resolve issues based on available resources. Applicants must be able to operate independently, manage their own work schedule, and dedicate blocks of time for uninterrupted focus. Work is anticipated to be conducted remotely and is part-time (hourly). During workdays, candidates must be able to respond to all communications within 24 hours and conduct calls and meetings as necessary during normal business hours. Beyond the communication requirements, work hours are extremely flexible. The employee shall • review incoming FOIA requests for completeness and adherence to Department of Commerce and NOAA policies, procedures, and regulations; • assist in reviewing agency records; • assist in maintaining database/tracking system for FOIA requests; and • monitor the timely processing of FOIA requests and alert government leads before a backlog situation arises.
Qualifications
Qualifications • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university • Knowledge of FOIA requirements, marine mammal, fishery statutes, and codified regulations • Familiarity with Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, and Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act • Ability to effectively and efficiently to work under tight deadlines and scheduled action dates • Strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal skills • Ability to communicate and work with others as a member of a team • Ability to comprehend and implement written and verbal instructions on FOIA record review and applicable processes • Proficiency in working with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel • Previous experience using FOIA Online desired This position has significant expectations of independence, self-management, and rapid integration of new information. Pay is commensurate with experience, and the overall work environment is very flexible.
