Friends of Blackwater is a small non-profit conservation organization based in Tucker County, West Virginia. Although the organization was originally founded to help move the Blackwater Canyon into public ownership, Friends of Blackwater has expanded its mission to include local water restoration, outdoor recreational development, environmental education, environmental advocacy, and historic interpretation.
The executive assistant assists the executive director with all aspects of our work. Primary responsibilities include digital communications (emails, blogs, and social media), grant writing and reporting, donor relations, coordination with partner groups, and support for advocacy campaigns. Friends of Blackwater has a diverse range of projects, so the ability to multitask, prioritize, and learn new skills is key.
This position is roughly 40 hours a work and reports directly to the executive director. Work falls mostly within standard business hours but occasional weekend work will be required for special events. Compensation is dependent on experience. Some telecommuting may be possible but priority will be given to candidates who reside in or are willing to relocate to the area.
Qualified candidates should know how to use Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint required, Access would be beneficial), and should have some familiarity with Wordpress and Action Network. Candidates must have strong writing skills and be prepared to write in a variety of styles, from grant reports to newsletter articles. Although Friends of Blackwater is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we do take policy positions and run public outreach campaigns, so candidates should be comfortable with that aspect of the work. Graphic design and work with Photoshop a plus.
