This one of a kind internship, based at the biggest alligator park west of the Mississippi, will give you numerous types of experience that you won’t be able to get anywhere else. You will work alongside and learn from the biggest nuisance alligator catchers in the state of Texas, all while educating the public about American Alligators and the conservation of various other reptiles. By the end of your internship you will have the skills needed to remove alligators safely and efficiently from a variety of settings. You will work hands on everyday with the largest reptiles in the country, as well as venomous and non-venomous snakes, and even some mammals!
A typical day includes waking up to feed and care for animals in the park before it opens to the public. Once guests arrive you are responsible for showing them around the facilities, taking out animals for them to touch and hold, and talking to them about what makes each and every animal we have so interesting. When there aren’t many guests in the park, your responsibilities can include general exhibit maintenance, construction, landscaping, and even animal training. You will also have the opportunity to participate in shows and events offsite to a variety of different audiences.
This is a fast-paced internship that requires you to always be on your toes and think quickly. You never know when a nuisance call will come in and you need to assist one of the handlers with the catch, or when an alligator in the park will break out of a pen and you have to secure it.
So if you want to get more hands on with reptiles than you can anywhere else, all while sharing your love and passion for these animals with people from all over the world, then come intern at Gator Country Rescue!
