Description
Project Description: The Forest Service is seeking individuals curious about how geospatial data can be used in structured decision-making in land management actions and how data can be used in storytelling. The USDA Forest Service, National Forest System, Bi-Partisan Infrastructure Law/ Inflation Reduction Act coordination team is filling multiple positions to help us tell our story. Our Resource Assistants will be based virtually but will have the opportunity to work alongside our natural resource specialist on our 155 national forests and 20 national grasslands. This position will work and a high-performing team that is responsible for coordinating and reporting on our agency’s accomplishments specific to the Bi-Partisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. We aim to place successful resource assistants within the National Forest System to help augment capacity for the agency’s Wildfire Crisis Strategy. The primary duties of the positions are: Assess and analyze current spatial and tabular data for corporate databases. Perform spatial analysis on various natural resource programs and project data to assist headquarters and field unit GIS needs for land management activities. Provides input on development and deployment efforts for corporate and Geographic Information System (GIS) applications related to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act Utilizes corporate data sources to enter accomplishments related to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act Creates communication products using technologies such as ESRI Experience Builder, Story Maps, and ArcGIS Pro based on data queried from corporate data sources.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Requirements for the positions are: Associate, Bachelor’s, or Graduate degree in GIS, Geography, Data Analytics, or Natural Resource Management (Forestry, Wildlife, etc.) Intense curiosity, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude Coursework or relevant experience in Geographic Information Systems Coursework or relevant experience in data mining, manipulation, and presentation Experience using the following applications: Excel, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, other Geographic Information Systems, or Tableau Direct Hire Authority (DHA) All RAP interns receive Direct Hire Authority (DHA) at the successful conclusion of their internship. DHA status enables an agency to hire, after public notice is given, any qualified applicant.
