- Description
- The Wyoming Game and Fish Department seeks a GIS Analyst based out of Cheyenne, WY. This position applies the use of GIS and related geospatial technologies within an enterprise GIS program to the conservation and management of fish and wildlife species and their habitats. This position also configures mobile applications and supports those using mobile applications for the organization and analysis of geospatial data collected in the field. Perform analysis and quality assurance on new and existing geospatial data to ensure that standards and integrity are maintained. Assist with development, maintenance, and administration of geospatial data and applications in an enterprise geodatabase environment. Foster the ongoing development of a historical record or library of valuable spatial information. Apply standards and protocols to maintenance procedures; record metadata. Assist project planning and conduct modeling and analyses of geospatial data that support management goals for species and habitats in project-specific and Department-level initiatives. Provide recommendations regarding geospatial project planning needs. Coordinate regional input into statewide geospatial data layers. Conduct analyses of statewide geospatial data to support Department goals. Design and produce mapping products that clearly articulate the results of geospatial analyses. Support the needs of other agency personnel using geospatial data and technologies. Advise others regarding specific geoprocessing tools and methods by which to accomplish specific results. Advise others regarding data needs, project design, and development while ensuring the most current geospatial data is available for department use. Investigate potential solutions to technical issues presented by end-users. Assist end-user and licensing management activities. Assist in testing and evaluating new software versions and service packs prior to Department-wide upgrades. Consult with or advise staff about proper methods, techniques, and guidelines for solutions that address data challenges. Implement and make recommendations for documentation, storage usage, and geodatabase management.
- Qualifications
- PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference may be given to those with a Bachelor's Degree in geospatial technologies or a natural resources field, and/or having regularly applied the use of geospatial technologies in a natural resources field. Preference will be given to those with progressive training and/or experience in using desktop GIS (and specifically the Esri suite of products) to develop GIS projects, organize data, conduct analyses and modeling, and produce mapping products. Post graduate work, a degree, a concentration/minor in GIS, or GIS certification is strongly preferred. **Agency requires a valid driver's license. KNOWLEDGE: Subject matter expertise in particular business application concepts and geospatial data analysis and geoprocessing tools; skills in project design, development, management, integration of geospatial technologies, and end-user support. Proficient use of the Esri suite of GIS geospatial solutions and geoprocessing tools, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS-specific editing environments, mobile solutions, and related workflows. Some knowledge of R, Python, JavaScript, or Arcade within a GIS context. Develops and maintains an extensive knowledge of geospatial and related technologies. Competent in processing geospatial data from various formats into an enterprise GIS. Ability to manage workflow on simultaneous projects in a centralized geospatial technology program. Basic IT skills and knowledge that support enterprise geospatial technologies and end-user workflows. Skills in written and oral communication, including map production. Knowledge of Wyoming’s wildlife and their habitats, or the desire to learn. Develops and maintains GIS tools and resources for public access and internal data collection. Familiarity with remote sensing technologies and integration of RS data into GIS. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Computer Technology) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Computer Technology) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Computer Technology Business Applications Specialist I OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Computer Technology) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Computer Technology Business Applications Specialist I Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Travel may be required.
