SUSTAINABLE SUMMER ( is accepting applications for Male Facilitators for our summer 2018 Global Learning programs. Sustainable Summer is an environmental leadership program for high school students. OPEN POSITIONS: Program Facilitator (MALE) for a four or six-week commitment. Employment commences on June 15th with staff training and orientation. Employment end date is dependent on program assignments, typically late July or mid August. RESPONSIBILITIES: ⋅ Along with a co-leader, implement our unique approach to environmental education and experiential learning; Facilitate positive group dynamics and foment a culture of risk awareness, inclusivity, and mutual respect; Live with students during the entire course of the program; Directly supervise, support, and mentor high school-age students during the course of the summer; participate in activities; facilitate discussion about curricular concepts; deliver instruction from core curriculum including sessions on leadership, sustainability concepts, and place-based lessons (training is provided); Be familiar with program regulations, risk management protocols and enforce program policies as necessary; Serve as a positive role model to students; Oversee travel logistics; coordinate with local partners, complete reports and evaluations as required; Address issues of student conduct, discipline, health; ensure well-being of students at all times; Attend mandatory staff orientation and training; Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by Sustainable Summer management.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be at least 22 years old and have completed a Bachelor’s degree program to be considered. Spanish language proficiency is required for all positions where Spanish the primary language, as is a demonstrable interest in sustainability and experiential education. An academic background in environmental science or policy is viewed favorably. Prior experience as a youth wilderness guide, mentor, teacher, education professional, camp counselor, or coach is required. Current CPR and Wilderness First Aid (or other relevant first responder certification) will be required prior to employment. We are looking for responsible, energetic applicants who are enthusiastic about our mission and are prepared to serve as positive role models for participants. You must be willing and physically capable of living in rustic conditions in a developing country while taking responsibility for the safety and well being of a group of high school students for 4 to 6 weeks on a nearly 24/7 basis.
