- Tall Timbers Research Station & Land Conservancy is seeking an individual for gopher tortoise burrow camera monitoring, striped newt dipnetting, and snake trap building. The work is at Tall Timbers in the Red Hills region surrounding Thomasville, Georgia and Tallahassee, Florida. The internship is a 16-week appointment, October (or first available) – January/Febuary, start and end dates are flexible. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week). Duties include: - Gopher tortoise camera monitoring and photo filtering - Two days/month dipnet for striped newts as weather conditions allow as part of a mark- recapture study - Assist with building snake traps - Other duties as assigned Compensation: - Internship stipend $295/week ($1,180/month) - Housing provided - Internet provided - Four-wheeler certification To apply: Submit to Kim Sash, Biological Monitoring Coordinator, by email the following: 1. - Qualifications
- - Biology degree/related field or working towards Bachelor’s degree with minimum 1-year field experience - Previous experience with ArcGIS software and GPS a plus - Must be U.S. citizen and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, no infractions in last 3 years - Ability to walk long distances through rough terrain in hot, buggy conditions - Ability to carry 30 pounds over distance across rough terrain
