- Description
- One M.S. position is available in the Division of Coastal Sciences, School of Ocean Science and Engineering, The University of Southern Mississippi (https://www.usm.edu/ocean-science-engineering/index.php). The campus is located at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (https://www.usm.edu/gcrl) in the City of Ocean Springs on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The graduate assistantship will start in Fall 2023. However, the potential student is expected to start to work as a technician in the Eco-spatial lab before the fall semester. The research focuses on the impact of sea-level rise and freshwater diversions on coastal wetlands. Coastal wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems in the world and provide a wide variety of key ecosystem services. They are sensitive to water level and salinity changes due to sea-level rise and freshwater diversions. Freshwater diversions also alter nutrient and sediment dynamics in estuaries. The research will involve field experiments and computer model simulations.
