- Description
- The Transboundary Aquatic and Coastal Ecology lab (www.stevemidway.com) in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences with the Crab Lab in the School of Renewable Natural Resources (https://livelylab.wordpress.com/) and Louisiana Sea Grant (https://www.laseagrant.org/) are collaborating on a funded project investigating gear for bycatch reduction. Project activities include trips on fishing/shrimping vessels as well as research design, data input, data management, data analysis, communication of messaging resulting from the research component, research report summaries, and updates to NOAA and the working group as required.
- Qualifications
- Responsibilities: 1. Perform field-based research, including participating in bycatch reduction device trials and vessel testing in Gulf of Mexico waters. Work may be on the water, as well as researching media (photography and video). Fieldwork may also directly or indirectly involve research observing on fishing/shrimping vessels. Other duties as assigned. 2. Manage and analyze project data (e.g., monitoring: data entry and reporting) with updates provided to NOAA on a regular basis. Preparation of manuscripts and project reports. Apply advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities to assist other researchers in obtaining, analyzing, and interpreting results. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications • BS degree in Fisheries, Ecology, Oceanography, Marine Biology, or closely related field • A valid Driver’s License • Work experience on or around fishing vessels Preferred Qualifications • MS in Fisheries, Ecology, Oceanography, Marine Biology, or closely related field • Experience in analyzing data and report writing A start date is flexible but expected to take place in the first half of 2022.
