Intern will assist habitat staff with the planning, preparation, and planting of grass and food plots, tree clearing and planting, weed fabric installation, equipment operations, noxious weed control, fence construction, area signing, and other duties as assigned. Intern will have the opportunity to learn the basic principles of habitat management and attend some external and internal trainings. Intern will be required to complete the herbicide application testing. Intern will have the opportunity to attain firefighter training, assist with wildlife surveys and bird banding.
Applicant must be a full-time student at a college, university or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the applicant should have at least a sophomore standing or currently be enrolled at a technical institute and have completed one year (nine months).
Preference will be given to South Dakota residents and students of South Dakota institutions.
Applicants with experience using tractors, trucks, ATVs and herbicide application equipment are preferred but not required.
