- Habitat Improvement Programs Manager Location: Remote Application deadline: open until filled Anticipated Start Date: when filled POSITION SUMMARY: The Habitat Improvement Programs Manager will provide leadership, coordination, and support for programs and partnerships that positively impact wildlife habitat by restoring and enhancing grasslands, wetlands, and forests on publicly owned lands throughout the country. This position will provide strategic direction and focus to PF&QF’s Habitat Teams and Specialists, public lands habitat improvement programs (ie Habitat Share, Adopt-A-Wildlife-Area) and private lands improvement programs (Landowner Financial Assistance Grants). The position will collaborate with the PF & QF Conservation Operations team and chapters to implement public and private lands conservation programs in targeted locations. The position will also collaborate with the Corporate Relations, and Development teams to develop partnerships and funding sources to support this work. Primary Duties: • Identify, develop, and coordinate partnerships that protect, restore, and enhance wildlife habitat on public lands with state (DNR etc) and federal agencies (U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and Department of Defense. • Coordinate PF and QF’s Habitat Specialist programs, assist state leadership teams in growing the program across the PF and QF footprint, and support conservation operations teams in hiring, onboarding, training, and equipping habitat teams and specialists. • Work collaboratively with PF and QF contract specialists to assist team members in the procurement of goods, services, and equipment needed to deliver PF and QF’s Habitat Specialist program. • Coordinate PF and QF’s public land improvement program (ie Habitat Share, Adopt-A) and collaborate with state leadership teams to incorporate the program into state plans to meet resource seeds across the PF and QF footprint. • Serve as a primary lead in the continued development of PF and QF’s conservation-based outcomes model, which includes assisting the Conservation Data Analyst with the development of standardized accomplishment reporting and developing strategic internal and external communications on the outcomes of PF and QF’s public land work. • Work collaboratively with the Director of Sustainability and Director of Corporate Relations to develop and/or steward relationships with partners that share organizational priorities and values as related to sustainable wildlife habitat improvement on public and/or private lands. • In collaboration with the Development and Corporate Relations Teams, identify corporate and private funding opportunities to support positions and programs that deliver habitat improvement on public and/or private lands. • Collaborate closely with other program managers (ie work closely with the Prescribed Fire Program Manager when deploying Habitat Teams or Specialists who have an emphasis around prescribed fire)
- Qualifications
- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Passion for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s mission. • Practical experience and understanding of the techniques and implementation of upland/grassland habitat management and the operation of equipment (tractors, mowers, discs, planters, skid loaders, etc) needed to conduct management practices. • Demonstrated experience in leading the development and delivery of training modules; including those related to habitat management. • Demonstrated experience developing and supporting partnerships and programs, stewarding relationships, writing proposals, and budget management. • Knowledge of the requirements for obtaining a commercial driver’s license, private pesticide applicators license and prescribed fire training. Training and Experience Guideline: • Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, natural resources; or • 5 years or more in practical experience delivering upland/grassland management practices, and/or providing programmatic development and leadership. Travel Expectation: Some overnight travel will be required. Estimate range is 30-40 nights per year.
