- Description
- The primary purpose of this position is to provide guests and members with programs to better the understanding of the natural environment on a barrier island. Additionally, the Head Naturalist is responsible for all activities and game preserve on the island. Job Duties: 1 Offer a variety of scheduled environmental programs for guests, members and Camp Fripp attendees. 2 Manage, and record relevant data for, the Fripp Island Deer Immunocontraception Project 3 Work with the Loggerhead Sea Turtle Project to assist with education, conservation and turtle protection. 4 Hire, train and supervise Naturalist Interns. 5 Manage the upkeep and daily care of the animals and exhibits in the Activities center and the associated office duties. 6 Assist Island Security with animal emergency and nuisance calls if needed. 7 Record and file data regarding turtles, deer and other local wildlife. 8 Develop and implement environmental volunteer projects for Fripp Island. 9 Assist the Recreation Department with orientation. 10 Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Qualifications
- This position requires a degree in Environmental Education, Outdoor Recreation, Wildlife or Marine Biology or a related field. A minimum of 2 years related experience and working knowledge of Southeastern environments required. A valid state driver's license and CPR and First Aid certifications required. This position requires complete mobility and the ability to withstand extreme outdoor environments. Must be able to stand, sit and/or walk a minimum of 8 hours daily. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
