- Description
- The M.S. student will lead a unique project to: (1) determine practices, programs, contexts, and legal structures that promote compliance with wildlife laws and regulations with spillover impacts on public safety, and (2) develop and test interventions to improve compliance with conservation laws. The student will work with an interdisciplinary team of human dimensions of wildlife and forensics experts from NC State University and Environmental Law and Crime experts from Wake Forest University School of Law. The student will be supported by a grant from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and work closely with agency personnel throughout the project. As part of the project the graduate research assistant, and support staff, will analyze databases of wildlife crimes body cam footage of interactions between law enforcement officers and citizens, conduct interviews, participate in ride-alongs, support a wildlife law compliance campaign, and conduct a survey of wildlife recreationists. The preferred start date is in August 2023, but work during the summer is available.
- Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Wildlife Conservation, Criminology, Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Environmental Science, or related fields. Strong quantitative skills, strong interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will also have experience in quantitative analysis, stakeholder engagement, and independent work. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. The position provides at least 2 years of funding for a 20 hour/week assistantship. The $25,000 annual salary will be supplemented by tuition, health insurance, and potentially an additional 3k/year for TA work in a course focused on wildlife crime (28k total).
