STATE OF WYOMING invites applications for the position of: ATAW99-08297-Hunt Management Coordinator-Sundance/Newcastle SALARY: $21.17 - $21.17 Hourly LOCATION: Statewide OPENING DATE: 05/10/18 CLOSING DATE: Continuous DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS: Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Work with landowners, along with elk and deer hunters in Crook and Weston counties in Northeastern Wyoming to form a collaborative working group to define and implement solutions to facilitate hunter access to private lands and increase antlerless elk and deer harvest. One position is available. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. •Collect biological samples (such as teeth, tissues, blood, etc.) from hunter-harvested deer and elk. •Work with landowners and big game outfitters operating on those lands within a prescribed area to form a collaborative working group to define and implement solutions to facilitate hunter access to private lands and increase antlerless elk and deer harvest. •Work directly with landowners to facilitate hunter access to lands where elk and deer have congregated throughout the hunting season. •Facilitate cooperation among neighboring landowners to promote hunter access across adjacent properties. •Assist hunters with the field care of harvested animals. •Employee will make him/herself available via check station and/or cellular phone, during the day and evening hours. •Assist in providing signage, maps, and other information as requested by landowners in exchange for public access. •Communicate meticulously and regularly with landowners, hunters, supervisor, local game warden and biologist, and the region wildlife supervisor. •Provide an increased Department presence in the field to answer hunter and landowner questions and concerns. •Navigate accurately using a GPS unit and maps. •Complete a detailed, written report that addresses the collaborative process including an evaluation of the successes and failures and make recommendations for future hunt management coordinator projects. QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference may be given to those with a bachelor's degree in wildlife management, range management, biology, zoology, and ichthyology. **Agency requires that the successful applicant have a valid driver's license. KNOWLEDGE: •Self-starter able to work independently with little, direct supervision. •Well developed communication skills (written and oral). •Ability to work with other people/agencies/groups, even when disagreeing. •Knowledge of the principles of wildlife data collection and conservation. •Knowledge of hunting and general outdoor skills. •Working knowledge of computer software and hardware. •Communicating with a variety of individuals from various agencies, landowner, and the hunting public. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None - See "Preferences" NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: •Excellent physical condition and ability to perform under adverse climatic working conditions and difficult terrain. •Ability to work outside, often for long periods on foot, and in severe weather conditions. •Will be required to work alone in remote field settings. •Ability to work with and facilitate cooperation between the ranching and hunting communities and others as a team. •Ability to work in and during adverse weather conditions and be able to safely operate 4-wheel drive pickup, ATV and perhaps a snowmobile. •Travel and overnight stays will be required. NOTES: •FLSA: Non-exempt •All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid hourly. •Positions will be based in the Sundance or Newcastle area of Wyoming. •Potential duration of employment July 2018 - June 2019.
