Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM (EST); Must be flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends Residency Requirement: Georgia Education: Bachelor in business/marketing or a natural resource-related field; Master’s degree preferred; Hunting background an asset OVERVIEW: This position will lead in developing strategic goals, objectives, and efforts for R3 that are consistent and comparable with the national goals established in the National Hunting and Shooting Sports Action Plan: Strategies Recruiting, Retaining, and Reactivating Hunting and Shooting Sports Participants and in the Georgia Hunting Action Plan. It is imperative that the process for achieving R3 goals is data-driven. Thus, the coordinator position will require skills related to requesting, analyzing, and interpreting data as well as leading efforts to adapt current programs or develop new efforts based on those findings. Evaluating R3 efforts is another critical component for success and the position must focus on strategies to track and evaluate R3 program sponsors, mentors, and participants. Another important part of this position is developing and maintaining a strong, productive stakeholder alliance or workgroup and coordinating mentor/mentee opportunities. The coordinator will work with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Chapter Safari Club International, Quality Deer Management Association, and the National Wild Turkey Federation and its stakeholders within Georgia to continue and modify as necessary the state-specific strategic plan. This R3 plan development process will identify and assess current Georgia R3 efforts; map those efforts on the Outdoor Recreation Adoption Model; identify current gaps in Georgia’s delivery of R3; and develop prioritized strategies and action items that adapt, improve, and expand efforts to meet specific measurable R3 goals. The position will be located at the Georgia Wildlife Federation’s Alcovy Conservation Center in Covington, GA. However, remote work can be accommodated. EXPECTED RESULTS: • Improve statewide R3 strategy, program design, and outcome tracking efforts • Improve sources of information and assistance for new participants • Improve skills and training for participants based upon known barriers to hunting participation • Create a network of mentors/volunteers and promote mentor/mentee opportunities • Improve participation at shooting sports facilities and increase access to hunting and shooting sports opportunities • Improve planning and cooperation among R3 partners • Engage current hunters and shooting sports participants • Improve cultural acceptance of hunting and shooting sports • Improve social media outputs to non-hunting participants • Work with steering committee members in support of R3 initiatives DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation (R3) Efforts of Hunting and Shooting Sports Programs in Georgia: Coordinator will develop prioritized strategic goals, objectives, and programs for R3 that are in alignment with the national goals established in the National Hunting and Shooting Sports Action Plan: Strategies Recruiting, Retaining and Reactivating Hunting and Shooting Sports Participants, the Georgia Hunting Action Plan, and other R3 best practices resources Evaluate R3 Efforts: 1) Request, gather, analyze, and interpret data to evaluate R3 efforts in Georgia 2) Lead efforts to adapt programs or develop new ones based on findings 3) Track and evaluate Georgia R3 program sponsors, mentors, and participants 4) Develop and maintain strong, productive stakeholder relationships Evaluating the Georgia Plan: Coordinator will work with Georgia Department of Natural Resources staff, the Georgia R3 steering committee, and Georgia stakeholders to evaluate and modify the state-specific strategic plan as necessary. This plan should continue to identify current Georgia R3 programs; assess program effectiveness; inventory programs within the Outdoor Recreation Adoption Model (ORAM); identify gaps in the ORAM; and develop action items that adapt, improve, and expand programs to meet specific measurable goals. Facilitate Organizational Partner Mentoring Efforts: 1) Identify organizations from traditional and non-traditional backgrounds for R3 hunting and shooting sports 2) Act as a resource and guide for agency and R3 partners 3) Work closely with R3 partners through phone contact, personal conferences, and group meetings Building Collaborative Partnerships: 1) Develop and maintain relationships with members of Georgia sportsmen and women groups; hunting, conservation, other outdoors-related industry; and community development organizations for the purpose of fostering collaborative projects to recruit, retain and reactivate hunters and shooters 2) Assist in developing and coordinating communication plans designed to maintain positive relationships with the public, program stakeholders, other Georgia agencies/organizations, and related service programs 3) Develop partnership strategies and collaborations that leverage program funding, resources, and/or operational capacity 4) Solve problems by coordinating actions across organizational lines and agency departments 5) Supervise three Academics Afield Coordinators, evaluate the program, and look to expand the program based on evaluation with other states, colleges, and universities 6) Host Steering Committee Meetings as required 7) Host an annual Georgia R3 Summit for agency, NGOs, and industry stakeholders. Creating and Maintaining a High-Performance Environment: 1) Define goals and/or required results at the beginning of each performance period and gain acceptance of ideas by creating a shared vision 2) Communicate regularly with supervisor and stakeholders on progress toward defined goals and/or required results, providing specific feedback and initiating corrective action when defined goals and/or required results are not met 3) Initiate discussions on a regular basis with supervisor and stakeholders to review relations climate, identify issues, and suggest solutions 4) Recognize contributions and celebrate accomplishments 5) Motivate others to improve quantity and quality of work performed and provide training and development opportunities as appropriate
Bachelor in business/marketing or a natural resource-related field; Master’s degree preferred; Hunting background an asset KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Avid outdoorsperson with hunting/shooting experience • Knowledge of hunting and shooting sports programs, training theory, instructional design, and program management • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media (e.g., articles, blog posts, social media, podcasts, video) • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources • Ability to evaluate training and instructional materials; write reports; develop procedures and monitor budgets • Ability to create, organize, and conduct presentations, seminars, training workshops, and promotional events • Experience using MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related software • Ability to stay on task, meet goals, and keep morale high • Ability to develop realistic goals and measure progress to stay on track • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments that often involve multiple staff including those with other organizations • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers from a variety of different organizations and backgrounds Preference will be given to applicants with marketing and communication experience in addition to the above skills and abilities.
