- Alaska Fellows Program position description University of Alaska Fairbanks Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship Innovation Fellow Fairbanks This position is part of the Alaska Fellows Program. All fellows live together, “in community,” in their respective host site. Each host site is unique and remarkable. Fellows receive housing, a $1150 monthly living stipend and a $500 relocation stipend. The fellowship includes facilitated and funded opening and closing retreats. The Center ICE innovation hub promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between diverse communities across the academic environment, as well as the entire state. Center ICE is part of UAF, which allows it to act as a bridge between the University of Alaska and the rest of the Alaskan community. UAF is America's Arctic University. The university is the nation's northernmost Land, Sea and Space Grant academic institution and is a student-centered international research center. UAF advances and disseminates knowledge through teaching, research and public service with an emphasis on Alaska, the circumpolar North, and their diverse peoples. Center ICE works closely with UAF’s technology transfer office (OIPC) as well as the colleges, schools, and institutes across the University to support academics to transition world-leading research into impactful opportunities. Center ICE funding allows innovators to grow their ideas into realities, while its experiences expand knowledge and sharpen skills of University researchers related to innovation and entrepreneurialism. Center ICE’s public events provide Alaskan innovators and entrepreneurs the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals while also expanding their knowledge base. Position Description: The Innovation Fellow will be immersed in UAF Center ICE’s programming and the innovation culture at the University. The fellow will be connected to the research engine at UAF as well as the wider innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem in Alaska and the statewide startup community. The fellow will work with Center ICE and its team on supporting the innovation pipeline. That includes seed funding opportunity, innovation and entrepreneurial programming, and outreach across UAF to faculty, staff, and students. Specific tasks for the fellow will include: Promoting and marketing the Center ICE Seed Fund and managing of proposals; Supporting Center ICE programming, including the ICEJam monthly series for networking, socializing, and learning events for the statewide ecosystem; Supporting programming for the UAF National Science Foundation I-Corps site; Supporting collaborative opportunities focused on innovation and entrepreneurship with other programs across the UAF community; Building out design sprints and innovation events to harness the research ideas from UAF academics and other fellows; Representing Center ICE at events and being an advocate for innovation and entrepreneurship. Location: Hours will be primarily Monday to Friday from 9 am – 5 pm at UAF Center ICE’s office in Fairbanks at the Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility. Logistics: Travel throughout Alaska may occur, based on the project, while some evening and weekend work could occur based on project needs and event timeline. Schedule expectations will be adjusted accordingly. Mentorship: The fellow will report to Mark Billingsley, Director of UAF Center ICE and will work with Peter Webley, UAF Center ICE Project Manager.
