Description
The Department of Biology at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL, invites applications for an instructor and lab coordinator for introductory biology courses at the Instructor level starting August 2023. The position will oversee and coordinate the instruction of roughly 15 sections of Biology I lab and 12 sections of Biology II lab per year, ensuring consistency and uniformity of curriculum and grading standards across all sections of the labs. This is a 9-month appointment with the option for an additional 3-month summer appointment. Responsibilities include: • Teach 3 contact hours (1 lecture or lab) per semester in the Biology Department. • Prepare appropriate instructional materials for the labs, revise laboratory curriculum and manuals, and assist undergraduate students in these courses. • Establish course structure and guidelines (grading and assessment policies, lab safety rules, etc.) • Supervise and mentor graduate instructors and teaching assistants and run weekly prep sessions. • Oversee the ordering, reception, and stocking materials and supplies for the introductory Biology labs. • Manage the reagents, supplies, and equipment of introductory biology teaching labs We are seeking a candidate who: • Is passionate about developing inquiry-based curriculum design in the introductory lab courses and is committed to the mentorship of all instructional personnel. • Has a willingness to learn, or a strong knowledge in, trends in biology lab curriculum development and inclusive pedagogical strategies. • Demonstrates excellent communication and organization skills • Can communicate effectively and professionally with people from a variety of different backgrounds • Has the ability to work independently but is a vital team member
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Biology or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred, but ABD applicants or those with a master’s degree (M.S.) and relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
