The MS student will lead an interdisciplinary study to inform conservation of plains fish species and aquatic ecosystems in eastern Colorado. The project will involve an experimental mesocosm study to investigate the effects of non-native mosquitofish on native plains fish, and a social study to characterize individual and institutional decision-making dynamics among water users and managers. The student will be co-advised by Dr. Yoichiro Kanno, and Dr. Jonathan Salerno (Dept. Human Dimensions of Natural Resources).
Required (1) Genuine interest in water and aquatic ecosystem sustainability issues in the arid region, (2) Ability to conduct an interdisciplinary project, (3) Strong communication skills, orally and in writing, and (4) Ability to work with stakeholders. Preferred: (1) Experience with conducting experimental fish research in laboratory settings, (2) Experience with conducting human dimensions research, (3) Quantitative skills in R programming, and (4) Knowledge on water issues in the arid West.
