Description
Why you’ll love this position: This is senior-level professional work conducted in a State Park. You will actively work to preserve and interpret the park’s natural and cultural resources and share your knowledge with visitors and the community. Work takes place indoors and outdoors in all seasons. What you’ll do: Manage the Visitor Center at Trail of Tears State Park. Physically conduct and facilitate biological monitoring and research for the park flora and fauna. Provide input as part of the park management team on park projects. Plan and conduct prescribed fires for park burn units and assist in area prescribed fires. Plan, facilitate and conduct ecological restoration and invasive species management. Research primary resources related to the 1830’s Indian Removal. Provide interpretive programs and park information for park visitors and scheduled groups.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental, Biological or Natural Resources, Resource Management, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, History or a closely related field and Two to four or more years of experience in research, development and/or presentation of interpretive and educational programs, teaching science or history, or comparable experience in a conservation or environmental program. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis). Preferred Qualifications A strong background in ecology, natural history and interpretation. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, manage multiple priorities and be able to work independently or in a team setting. Computer skills that include Microsoft Office use, and mapping programs. Ability to work weekends and holidays, attend meetings and trainings requiring overnight stays. Ability to work in physically demanding environments such as steep terrain and in a variety of weather conditions.
