The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is seeking a technician to assist with Invasive Species Mitigation project monitoring program. The successful candidate will travel with UDAF staff to project areas during the summer months (May-September), experience a variety of different habitats, and conduct vegetation monitoring, including photographic methods, line-point intercept, line intercept, plant density and more. This is an excellent opportunity for students and early professionals in Natural Resources, Botany, or Environmental Sciences to gain practical experience and travel throughout Utah! -Hike long distances carrying a heavy pack (30-50lbs.) -Work in adverse weather conditions (high temperatures, rain, wind, snow…) and over difficult terrain (steep mountains, deserts, lake kayaking, mucky wetlands) -Background knowledge in ecology, botany, range, or general science -Ability and willingness to follow specific methods and protocols -Available to travel Monday-Friday during the summer months, occasionally staying on location in hotels or camping -Ability to have a flexible schedule and work 40hrs and occasionally more a week -Plant identification skills highly desirable -Knowledge of GPS and GIS technologies desirable, but not required -Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and perform data entry and basic analysis -Operate a 4x4 vehicle over undeveloped roads -Positive attitude and strong work ethic
