SUMMARY The Strike Team Members will conduct invasive species control on Tribal properties. The Strike Team Members are responsible for survey, detection and control of invasive species. Main job duties will include comprehensive invasive species survey of Tribal lands, manual and chemical control and removal efforts. Strike Team Member will have frequent long days in the field (including lunches). The Invasive Species Strike Team will perform functions for the Tribal Government in compliance with Tribal policy and Federal Government standards. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: Report to the Stewardship Specialist on a daily basis The majority of work assigned will take place in the field Crew members must dress appropriately for the conditions Crew members will be performing work in areas highly visible to the Tribe and public The Gun Lake Tribe will hold employees to a high standard of professionalism Invasive species monitoring Document the species, location and area of infestation using GPS, Midwest Invasive Species Information Network (MISIN) and other applicable programs Treat invasive species using identified best management practices Conduct manual and chemical invasive species control including removal of garlic mustard, autumn olive, multiflora rose and honey suckle Areas where invasive species are treated must be documented in a pesticide application log book as well as entered into the appropriate data management tool(s) Safely utilize equipment including but not limited to chainsaws, herbicide sprayers, UTVs and hand tools Assist with mapping, publications, data entry and outreach activities Attend classroom and field trainings as requested Assist in maintaining equipment (sprayers, sampling gear etc.) Work as a Camp Counselor and/or other capacity at the Jijak Youth Camp Assist Environmental Departmental staff with day-to-day activities when needed OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to identify (or learn to identify) invasive species of Michigan Must possess a strong work ethic including being service-orientated Must have excellent interpersonal, self-starter, organizational, and time management skills Possess effective oral communication skills Must have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Possess the ability to operate equipment including pesticide applicator and UTV Ability to work in a team-orientated environment and maintain an effective team working relationship with co-workers Must be punctual and reliable Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends Must be in good physical health Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions First Aid and CPR certification must be acquired after hire at Tribe’s expense Pesticide Certification must be acquired after hire at the Tribe’s expense
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable on company policy
