Description
Seasonal technician needed to assist with Fort Hood’s wild pig control program. Position will start approximately 24 April (some flexibility) and will end 30 September 2023. Primary duties will be to assist the Natural and Cultural Resources Management Branch (NCRMB) biologists with trap deployment, relocation, and maintenance. Technician will assist with the processing of captured animals including removing from traps, transporting to holding area, and collecting necessary data. Additionally, technician will be responsible to help with identifying locations of pig activities for trap deployment, which will include game camera management. Technician will be required to utilize an issued cell phone and various apps necessary to operate cameras and trap systems as well as navigating work area. As necessary, maintenance of facilities and equipment will be required. Occasional opportunities to assist NCRMB biologists with various game programs may occur. Previous experience with any of these activities is a plus. Work hours will be flexible and will include heavy lifting in humid, sunny environments with mosquitos, chiggers, fire ants, cacti, snakes, and poison ivy. Work weeks are typically 40 hours and technician is expected to be available for a flex schedule and weekend work. Technician must provide their own housing and transportation to and from Fort Hood. The use of work truck is provided but is limited to duty hours and on the installation only.
Qualifications
An Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Applicants must be in good physical condition, and able to lift up to 70-lbs. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Experience with off-road vehicle operation and familiarity with Fort Hood are a plus. Experience with use and maintenance of small power equipment is preferred. Experience with GPS units and independent navigation is preferred.
