- Description
- General Definition of Work: To design, manage and integrate a pest management program for all City departments. To educate the public and staff regarding best management practices regarding the environment Essential Functions: o Assess pest control problems (including weeds, insects, fungus, rodents, etc.) on and in City of Santa Fe property. o Keep current on integrated pest management technologies, products, environmental effects, and health hazards of pesticides. o Develop and oversee vegetation/pest management programs for city departments in accordance with the IPM ordinance. o Prepare daily work orders and coordinate and assign daily work. o Assist Capital Improvements Program Division in developing new or remodeled landscape and building designs which minimize maintenance, water usage, and pest problems. o Advise on and coordinate pest management activities of City Departments. o Promote the IPM process to Santa Fe area state, federal, and county agencies, schools, businesses, and the public. o Educate, train, and work with staff and the public to develop and implement short- and long-range pest management plans for all facilities and grounds. o Schedule and facilitate regular meetings with individuals responsible for department pest management. o Coordinate the monitoring and recording of city pest problems, outcomes, and interventions. o Submit written records and reports to City departments as requested. o Develops and manages a budget for IPM for equipment, supplies, training, etc… o Serves as consultant and coordinates IPM and environmental practices with other governmental agencies, private entities and individual citizens. o Serves on committees as City Liaison as requested. o And other duties as may be required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Knowledge of the principles of Integrated Pest Management • Must have knowledge of field inventory techniques, i.e., traps for determining types and quantities of pests and grid layouts on fields to determine pest infestations. • Considerable skill in effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to develop long-range plans and short-range operational programs. • Ability to work with a range of City staff, outside agencies, businesses, and the public. • Must be able to give presentations to large groups, work independently, and gather information from a variety of sources.
- Qualifications
- Education Requirement: Bachelors degree in entomology, integrated pest management, biological sciences, botany, ecology, or related field; and Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of field experience in area of assignment, two (2) of which must be directly or indirectly involved with the IPM process Education and Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. Licensure and Certifications: • Must possess valid driver’s license upon hire. • Must possess or obtain certification in CPR and First Aid. Special Requirements: • Obtain and maintain a City of Santa Fe driving permit within three (3) months of hire. • Must possess or obtain herbicide/pesticide applicator within six (6) months of hire.
