FULL-TIME/PERMANENT IT DATA MANAGEMENT - ENTRY Geographic Information System (GIS) Data Stewardship WDFW Wildlife Program Olympia, Washington This recruitment is essential to maintain operations and fulfill WDFW’s legal obligations: Critical information internal/external necessary to performing essential functions. Are you an experienced GIS Data Steward that is eager to provide information management and service delivery functions for land asset management, recreation, conservation and planning? Picture yourself on a team that is responsible for the design, implementation, integration and maintenance of enterprise systems of record and the application of best IT/GIS practices. With that in mind, This is an opportunity to produce essential Relational Database Management System ‘RDBMS-driven’ content for internal and external applications and cloud-based services. With your experience, you will apply IT best practices, ensuring quality assurance and timely delivery of content and data services. We are seeking a candidate with strong written and verbal communication skills who has the willingness and aptitude to provide technical assistance while ensuring successful customer service delivery. Duties Our I.T./GIS Data Stewardship Provides continuity in the operations and maintenance (O&M) of enterprise-level relational database management systems. Ensures data maintenance and data integrity are met through formulations of procedures and standards to ensure effective data management, across the enterprise. Streamlines business workflows for enterprise data management, discovery and reporting. Develops, uses and enhances customized scripts, tools and applications for - automating data management workflows, mitigating system failures, tracking/resolving issues, scheduling tasks, batching production jobs, and generating reports. Performs miscellaneous mapping support for a variety of programmatic business activities and services (e.g., planning, public recreation). Provides technical assistance, as needed, on new projects/initiatives that require additional GIS capacity and resources. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work Setting, including hazards: Office setting - this position requires extensive computer use and sitting and/or standing in a busy office environment. Teleworking options are currently available. Schedule: Monday – Friday – 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Occasional flexibility in work schedule may be required in order to respond to a change in project deadline and/or priority. Travel Requirements Some travel may be required to attend trainings, meetings and conferences. Tools and Equipment Computer hardware, software and mobile/cloud technologies. Customer Relations Requires strong teamwork and effective collaboration among coworkers and stakeholders.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, IT or a closely related field AND TWO (2) years of experience in GIS technology (database design, data management, analysis, etc.). OR Associate Degree or completion of an accredited vocational training program in GIS, IT or a closely related field AND THREE (3) years of experience in GIS technology (database design, data management, analysis, etc.). OR Professional equivalent experience may substitute, year for year, for the education requirement, as long as that experience is in GIS technology (database design, data management, analysis, etc.). AND Experience managing IT/GIS datasets in various formats, coordinate systems, etc. Solid understanding of cartographic design principles; experience designing map layouts/templates in ArcGIS/ArcPro. Knowledge of public land survey system (PLSS), non-PLSS lands descriptions and land survey principles. Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver’s License. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience writing and/or modifying SQL statements to retrieve and summarize records from RDBMS. Basic experience with the Python scripting language. Formal coursework or certification in natural resource management, land management, land survey or a closely related field. Experience with multiple technologies and the ability to learn new things quickly. Core Competencies for Success: Leveraging the ArcGIS/ArcPro architecture for data development, collection, maintenance and reporting. Use of ArcGIS/Pro data editing tools and methodologies. Appropriate use of relational and distributed database technology. Applying best practices and quality control measure. Designing and publishing custom map templates.
