The Nature Conservancy in Indiana is seeking a Conservation Technician for its 8,400 – acre Kankakee Sands Preserve located in Morocco, Indiana. The Conservation Technician will assist with the management of this prairie and savanna complex, which is home to over 7,000 acres of planted prairie and the Conservancy’s newest bison herd established in 2016. They will participate in preserve operations and lead work teams to ensure coordination, community support, and implementation of preserve management plans and become a member of our Fire and Bison programs. This is a full-time position with a competitive benefits package and a starting salary of $20.77 an hour.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in a science related field, a background and understanding of current practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation, the ability to recognize plant and animal species, and experience operating and repairing field equipment (such as chainsaws and tractors). Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain Wildland Firefighter Type II (FFT2) qualification and pass the moderate pack test (2 mile walk with a 25lb pack in 30 min or under).
