The Nature Conservancy in Indiana is seeking a crew of Field Technicians for its 8,400-acre Kankakee Sands Preserve located in Morocco, Indiana. This prairie and savanna complex is home to over 7,000 acres of planted prairie and the Conservancy’s newest bison herd established in 2016. The Field Technicians will participate in preserve operations and work as a team on prescribed fires, invasive species control, and native seed collection and processing.
The ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and 6 months of related experience. They should be able to recognize plant and animal species and have experience operating and repairing field equipment (such as chainsaws and tractors). Candidates must currently possess, or be able to obtain, qualifications of a Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2) and achieve the physical fitness standard as determined by the local Fire Manager and the TNC Fire Manual.
These are full-time, temporary positions with a duration of approximately 6-months starting May 2021. The position may require irregular work hours and long days, particularly during spring and fall fire seasons. Optional, shared housing may be available depending on current or future TNC and/or government guidelines concerning covid-19.
