The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for day to day operations of the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (ECL) at the National Great Rivers Research & Education Center. The ECL analyzes water, sediment, soil, and plant samples for NGRREC scientists and their collaborators. The Laboratory Technician I will ensure that the laboratory uses appropriate Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) practices so that all samples are analyzed in a timely fashion with precise and accurate results.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in a chemistry, biology, or a closely related scientific field. Prior laboratory experience (3+ years) with analysis of environmental samples. Ability to use advanced laboratory analytical equipment including discrete analyzers, carbon and nitrogen combustion analyzers, pH and conductivity meters. Familiarity with standard USEPA and USGS methods for measuring nutrients and carbon in water and sediment samples. Familiarity with safe laboratory practices, including the use of strong acids and bases. May require the ability to stand for extended periods of time (up to 2 to 4 hours). The ability to work unsupervised in a research laboratory.
