A visitor survey technician position is available on the OSU Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management human dimension study beginning in May 2018. Work will assist researchers with the assessment of visitor behavior and perception at a reservoir. This project aims to quantify the economic impact and perceived quality of the lake and its fishery. In order to collect this information, we will be hiring an individual to briefly interview lake visitors and pass along a mail-in survey at Canton Reservoir in northwest Oklahoma. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are important components of this position. Work can involve long hours in hot, humid weather and frequent work on weekends. The nature of the project requires interviews that occur on randomly selected days within each month. The assigned work schedule will vary from week to week. Interviews must be performed on weekdays and weekend days, as well as on holiday weekends (Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc.).
Progress towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in natural resources, biology, ecology or a closely related field; Ability to work well outside, sometimes in harsh conditions, with minimal supervision; Communicate well with the general public, and the ability to drive an official OSU vehicle. The survey technician must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and be available mid-May through mid-September.
