- Conservation Begins Here. The Student Conservation Association (SCA), Americas #1 conservation service organization seeks qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire students for the programs. Training Dates: 5/15-5/25 (paid mandatory training) Program Dates: 6/12 9/22 Location (City and State): Golden Pond, Kentucky Primary Responsibilities: The Land Between the Lakes Corp Team will work closely with the US Forest Service (USFS). This team will have 1 leader with 3 adult (18+) members. The active season will be 15 weeks in the field with the leader having an additional 4 weeks for leader training, season preparation and season close out. Project leader training may not take place at the worksite, and likely will be with other leaders who will be working across the country. The teams duties will consist of constructing and installing information kiosks during the season along with various restorative projects to serve the 170,000 acres of park land. Specifically, the Crew Leader will: Act as a Crew Supervisor, by facilitating teamwork, managing field-based tasks, and guiding crew dynamics Serve as an Advisor, by training members in technical conservation work skills, mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship Act as a Project Manager, by communicating with agency park partners, ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects, and upholding a positive representation of SCA Perform tasks as a Program Administrator, by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing a budget, and communicating with SCA staff
- Qualifications
- Leader Qualifications: Experience working with youth or young adults [Enter preferred age range here], teaching or environmental education a plus Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred i.e., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more Wilderness First Aid Certified (preferably) Must be able to attend Crew Leader training: 5/15 5/25 Must be a minimum of 21 years of age Must have the ability to legally work in the US Must have a valid drivers license for 3+ years and MVR that meets SCA standards Must be able to meet SCAs criminal background check standards Leader Benefits and Compensation: $700 - $800 per week (paid biweekly), dependent on experience Up to $1,000 total provided to support travel to/from training and to/from worksite Field-based meals Housing and campsites provided; some camp equipment provided $45/month cell phone stipend SCA uniform items SCA Leader Training, Trail Skills Training, as well as option to renew WFA certification SCA is an EOE dedicated to workforce diversity.
