Description
Are you ready to dive into the experience of a lifetime? Join us as a Land Conservation Leader 2019 (Southern Front Range). We need adventurous, hard-working individuals to lead crews of peers on 4-9-day camping hitches to complete land conservation projects in the stunning open spaces of the Southern Front Range. At Mile High Youth Corps, every day is an opportunity to learn, laugh, and grow as we serve our communities and invest in ourselves. Not an experienced outdoorsperson? Don’t have extensive leadership experience? That's okay! Land Conservation Leaders (LCLs) begin the program with two weeks of in-house training and six weeks of field training in the hands-on skills and leadership development you need-- we just ask that you are willing to commit to long days, hard work, giving it your all, and making memories you'll never forget. LCLs transition to Assistant Crew Leader roles for the Summer of Service season, and based on skills developed, LCLs may serve as Crew Leaders, Co-Crew Leaders or remain Assistant Crew Leaders for the Fall Forestry season. What it Looks Like: • Complete physically demanding conservation projects on public lands throughout the Southern Front Range. Project examples include trail construction and maintenance, fire mitigation, fencing, noxious weed removal, wildlife habitat improvements and public land maintenance and clean-up. • Fully participate in and provide leadership for educational activities, including environmental education, civic engagement, healthy living, and social justice, for up to four hours a week in the field. • Corpsmembers serve as role models and promote volunteerism and community service across the organization. LCLs Receive: • Biweekly stipend: Earn a living stipend of $800-$1,080 every two weeks • AmeriCorps Education Award: Earn a scholarship of $2,255.24 upon successful completion of each of the two 675-hour terms of service; totals $4,510.48 at successful completion of the 8 ½ month term. These awards can be used to pay tuition or pay back qualifying student loans. • Trainings: Wilderness First Aid/CPR, Leave No Trace outdoor ethics, Pesticide Application, hands-on technical training related to all projects, facilitation and public speaking, peer mentoring, extensive leadership development, and the option to earn S-212 chainsaw equivalency certification (required for Sawyers). • Health Insurance: May be eligible for health insurance the 1st of the month after serving at MHYC for sixty days. Corpsmember will have a monthly share of the health insurance premium. Timeline: This is a temporary position, from March 18, 2019 - November 15, 2019 To Apply: Visit our website at https://www.milehighyouthcorps.org/apply-now. Or visit us in person at 417 E.
