Founded in 1993, the Black Swamp Conservancy’s mission is to protect and preserve natural and agricultural lands in northwest Ohio for the benefit of future generations. The Conservancy is an accredited non-profit land trust dedicated to protecting agricultural land and natural areas, now and for future generations. We do this to preserve the rural heritage, unique natural habitats, and lakes and streams of northwest Ohio. By protecting our valuable land and water resources, we hope to support healthy communities with strong, sustainable economies including agriculture and ecotourism. As a nonprofit organization we rely on the support of landowners, donors, and partnerships with other conservation organizations. We strive to be a wise investment for our supporters, whether they are giving us their land, time, or money. The Conservancy currently protects more than 125 properties covering 16,750 acres and representing some of our region’s finest family farms, wetlands, woodlands and other open spaces. For more information, please visit Position Profile: Reporting to the Executive Director and in collaboration with the entire Conservancy team, and particularly the Stewardship Specialist, the Land Protection Specialist (Specialist) joins Black Swamp Conservancy’s land protection and stewardship team. The Specialist’s duties and responsibilities will extend to all aspects of accomplishing the Conservancy’s mission, including: initiating and managing land protection projects, grant writing to support land acquisitions and restoration activities, landowner relations, conservation easement monitoring and fee land management.
Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in environmental policy, natural resource management, biology or a closely related field. • At least two years non-profit experience, preferably with a land trust or similar conservation organization. • Experience securing and managing grant funding. • Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects at the same time. • A dedicated team player with a sense of humor and a commitment to protecting the natural environment who also works well independently. • Available to work before and after normal business hours and on the weekends, as necessary. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience initiating and managing real estate transactions. • Proficiency in ArcGIS, GPS and field mapping techniques. • Experience creating baseline documentation reports. • Experience with conservation easement monitoring. • Experience managing stream and wetland restoration projects. • Knowledge of Great Lakes ecosystems. • Knowledge of farming and agricultural BMPs.
