12 month technician position ( Nov. 1- Nov. 15) to assist ongoing research efforts on the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch, Fisher Co., TX. After the training period, this role will transition to the Lead Technician on the ranch. Job responsibilities will include major efforts in radio telemetry, quail trapping, camera-trapping, call counts, raptor ID, small mammal trapping, use of tractor and implements, prescribed burning, and more. Successful applicant will receive exposure to a wide variety of data collection techniques, learn to use farm equipment, and gain hands on experience in habitat management.
B.S. in wildlife or other closely related field; MS preferred. Experience with field techniques involving upland game birds preferred (e.g., radio telemetry, trapping/handling). Knowledge/experience with ATVs/UTVs. Must be team-oriented but capable of independent field work. Must possess good work ethic and be capable of early morning efforts (call counts) and ability to work in hot weather. Must have basic computer skills (e.g., Excel). Experience in social media and other non-technical outlets desirable. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
