Description
The Lakes Regions Conservation Corps (LRCC) is an AmeriCorps service program that develops skills and experiences for conservation professionals. LRCC members are the driving force behind many of the conservation efforts of New Hampshire's Lakes Region. The Squam Lakes Conservation Society (SLCS) is an accredited non-profit land trust committed to protecting the lands in and around the Squam Watershed for present and future generations. SLCS is seeking two half-term (22.5 weeks) AmeriCorps members for the 2022 season beginning on May 16 and ending October 19, 2022. SLCS's Americorps members will assist in a variety of lands projects both in and out of the office. The following is a partial list of skills and experiences you can expect to develop: Monitor conservation easements, which entail walking property lines and trails and reviewing easement documents to ensure conservation goals are met. Work with volunteers to provide training and support in a variety of capacities. Perform land management activities on SLCS preserves, including general land management, boundary line maintenance, and invasive plant management and removal. Utilize social media skills to advance SLCS’s mission. Organize events and deliver programs such as leading interpretive walks. Work on new land acquisition projects conducting field work, creating baseline documentation, and identifying areas of special conservation value. Utilize GIS mapping and Avenza to update and improve the delivery of conservation planning and stewardship. Conduct trail maintenance. Be an active member of a small but highly experienced team. Interact with other LRCC AmeriCorps Members for community projects. All members have the opportunity to receive these trainings, certifications, and benefits: Wilderness First Aid & CPR certifications Living allowance; $534 bi-weekly (pre-tax) NH Commercial Boating License Housing provided Student loan forbearance for qualifying loans AmeriCorps Education Award of $3,172.50 received upon successful completion of the program and a minimum of 900 hours * The provision of these trainings are contingent upon the operation of the organizations hosting them, which may be impacted due to COVID-19.
Qualifications
Able to work independently and with a group Must be comfortable living and working with another person People skills and an interest in developing skills for sharing science based information with a non-science audience Excellent oral and written skills Preference to applicants with GIS experience Minimum Qualifications as per AmeriCorps CNCS Guidelines: Must be 18 years of age by May 16, 2022 Must be covered by health insurance for the duration of program Must be a US citizen, US national, or legal permanent resident Must clear all required national service criminal history checks Must be a high school graduate, GED recipient, or be working towards obtaining one during term of service
