Description
The Environmental Change & Sustainability Lab (https://ecslab.org) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is recruiting one MS student to start in Fall 2023. The selected candidate will develop a research project within the scope of an ongoing collaboration between UTRGV and Cornell University focused on evaluating tradeoffs and minimizing adverse environmental impacts of hydropower proliferation in culturally and biologically diverse river basins in South America. Some familiarity with geospatial analysis and/or programming languages such as R or Python is desirable. The student will be enrolled either in the master’s program in Agriculture, Environmental & Sustainability Sciences or Ocean, Coastal & Earth Sciences at UTRGV. The student will be based at UTRGV (Edinburg campus), with possible opportunities to spend time at Cornell University during the summer. This position carries a standard annual stipend of $18,000 plus full support with tuition. Additional funds will be available to complement the annual stipend depending on future funding.
