- Seeking a M.S. Biology graduate student to conduct research on larval burbot (Lota lota) at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. Burbot are a native, freshwater gadiform fish that spawn in variable habitats during winter in the northern hemisphere. The project will focus on dispersal-related behaviors and abilities in early larval stages of lab-reared burbot from wild-collected gametes. Position requires some winter field work as well as lab work. Position will be supported by an academic year graduate teaching assistantship (two academic years), which includes a stipend and tuition waiver.
- Qualifications
- Required: B.S. in fisheries, natural resources, ecology, biology or related field with overall GPA of at least 3.0. Strong interest in larval fish behavior, rearing, and biology. Ability and interest in conducting cold-weather winter field work. Preferred: Experience with aquaculture, interest in native coldwater fishes, excellent attention to detail, highly motivated with strong work ethic, excellent writing, experience with statistics/R.
