M. S. or Ph.D. Graduate Assistantship – Strategies To Enhance Habitat Restoration Success Following Disturbance-Texas

$1,600/month (for M.S.) or $2,000/month (for Ph.D.) plus benefits (medical package has a 60-day waiting period) Nonresident tuition waived (resident tuition fees apply). Partial resident tuition fee assistance may be provided based on availability of funds.
The graduate student selected will conduct research on restoration techniques for areas impacted by disturbance (e.g., energy extraction, rights-of-way amendment, rangeland improvements). Project goals include designing and conducting experiments to investigate (1) benefits associated with cover crops, (2) document effects of seed longevity when planted during unfavorable conditions. The successful candidate will pursue an MS or PhD (depending on qualifications) degree in Range and Wildlife Management with the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
B.S. (for M.S. position) or M.S. (for Ph.D.) in range ecology, plant ecology, or closely related field. A strong work ethic, good verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently and as a productive member of a research team, and ability to work under adverse field conditions (hot humid south Texas environment) are essential. Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and competitive GRE scores.
Preferred: Background or interest in plant identification, vegetation sampling, basic field ecology.
