The incumbent in this position will be expected to assist in the development and management of research and surveys associated with the Ecological Monitoring Surveys (EMS) work unit, which is responsible for conducting multiple biological field sturdies utilizing trawl gear on small and large vessels and on board commercial fishing vessels. Under supervision, supports biological and technical staff during the collection of data used to manage Georgia’s seafood industry and marine recreational fishery. May supervise marine or wildlife technicians, hourly employees and interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preference may be given to applicants with:  Possession of a Master’s Degree in marine biology or related field  Experience in utilizing trawl gear (large and small vessel)  The ability to analyze complex datasets using advanced statistical software (R, SAS, SPSS, S-Plus, AD Model Builder, Systat, etc.)  Requires good overall physical condition. Able to lift gear and equipment weighing more than 50 pounds  Experience in identification of southeastern Atlantic marine organisms (finfish/crustaceans/etc.)  Possess strong navigational skills and the ability to operate small vessels in coastal waters  Experience in field sampling methodology and equipment  Knowledge of database management, including but not limited to SAS, Microsoft Access (using Visual Basics), Oracle, etc.  Ability to work at sea, often for long periods and in adverse conditions  Strong oral and written communication skills  Ability to liaison with members of the fishing industry and general public NOTE: Please direct questions about the position to Lindsey Aubart at or (912) 264-7218.
