Description
This employee will manage the statewide oyster sanctuary program under the guidance of the Artificial Reef Coordinator The primary responsibilities of this position include: new reef site selection; enhancement planning and spatial design; permit acquisition and compliance; procurement of materials and logistical planning; long-term physical and biological monitoring; data analysis and summarization to guide future sanctuary development; and coordination with agencies, organizations, and researchers to improve the sanctuary program. This employee will ensure staff, contractors, and project partners adhere to approved construction plans and sampling procedures. Further, this position is responsible for ensuring oyster sanctuary staff comply with safety protocol and procedures, including those for safety gear and safety equipment. This position may participate in other habitat enhancement programs, such as artificial reefs or shellfish rehabilitation. The position will directly supervise up to four Marine Fisheries Technicians.
Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of shellfish and finfish ecology Knowledge of sampling techniques used to assess sessile marine organisms or finfish. Knowledge of oyster reef construction techniques Experience creating and delivering presentations Experience analyzing and summarizing data using SAS, JMP, or R Experience operating and trailering boats Experience using GIS software SCUBA Certification Management Preferences: Project planning Low-visibility diving experience Supervisory experience Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, marine biology, zoology or biology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
