- Tierra Right of Way Services. Ltd. is seeking an experienced, part-time temporary biologists to conduct Mexican Spotted Owl surveys from April to June and subsequently assist with Southwestern Willow Flycatcher and Yellow-billed Cuckoo surveys through August. Survey locations include National Forests in central and northern Arizona, and northwestern New Mexico. Applicants must be able to identify target species by sight and sound, but a successful applicant will be experienced in surveys, protocol, and be able to work independently. They will independently travel to study sites (PACs) and navigate roadways, off-road and trail systems to call point locations using GPS or a map and compass. Most of the work occurs overnight or early morning. This position requires experience and comfort with operating a vehicle on remote, dirt roads (4x4 preferred) a valid driver’s license. The survey areas offer plenty of areas for outdoor recreation (camping, hiking, fishing, birding, etc.), and are relatively close to cities with beautiful views, history, and good food (Jerome, Sedona, Flagstaff, etc.). Experience identifying western passerine birds and birds of prey by sight and sound; specifically the Mexican Spotted Owl, yellow-billed cuckoowillow flycatcher and southwestern willow flycatcher is required.
