Description
An M.S. research assistantship is available through the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative, part of the Department of Biology and Center of Excellence for Field Biology at Austin Peay State University (APSU) with an academic start date of January 2021 (Spring Semester). The student will work closely with Drs. Evan Rehm and Dwayne Estes on a project studying the interactive effects that climate change and an invasive species will have on native grassland plant communities in Tennessee. The successful application will be expected to engage in field-based research related to global change biology, plant community ecology, grassland conservation, and invasive species. Minimum qualifications include: (1) a B.S. in Biology, Ecology, Zoology, or a related field, (2) excellent written and oral communication skills, (3) strong self-motivation and ability to work well independently and with a team, (4) ability to work long hours under challenging and physically demanding field conditions, and (5) experience with vegetation sampling. Preferred qualifications include: (1) plant identification skills, (2) database management and (3) data analysis using R. Candidates with preferred qualifications should be able to demonstrate the acquisition and application of their experiences outside of a traditional classroom setting.
