- Description
- Join our growing team! We're seeking applicants to fill up to 2 positions investigating the ecological implications of waterbird interactions with fisheries in a number of settings. Specifically, these candidates will evaluate the feeding ecologies of various avaifauna through assessments of their parasite communities, physiological markers, and gut contents. Host bird taxa largely include wading birds (herons & egrets), and seabirds (gulls, tubenose, alcids, etc.) although other groups could be included as our sampling breadth widens. Although this work is largely lab-based, there will be opportunities for field work, collaboration at partner facilities, and travel to scientific conferences. These projects are a good fit for students intersted in pursuing careers in wildlife ecology, disease ecology, and One Health subjects. Frostburg State University is a historic school nestled in the mountains of western Maryland, within driving (not living) distance from DC, Baltimore, and Pittsburg with unlimited opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Start date can be as early as summer (July) 2023, and as late as fall (August) 2023. Assistantship awardees will be offered by May 2023. Interested applicants should send an email to KLSheehan@frostburg.edu with the following: 1. A description of your interest in avian ecology, parasitology/disease ecology, and your career goals 2. your GRE scores (numeric & percentiles) 3. a copy of your resume/CV as an attachment Any correspondences missing the 3 items above will not be retained or considered. Any applications submitted directly to Admissions without prior vetting by Dr. Sheehan will not be consiered. Interviews for these positions will start 3/24/23 and applications MUST BE RECEIVED BY 3/21/23 for full consideration and to schedule an interview. Students from underrepresented groups are highly encouraged to apply.
