- Description
- The graduate assistant will collaborate with scientists and managers from the New York Natural Heritage program and New York Division of Lands and Forests to field-verify potential old-growth stands across a range of forest types within the New York Forest Preserve system (using tree age and forest structural data), and contribute to data collection to estimate carbon content of live and dead above- and below-ground biomass, and soils. The successful candidate will pursue a MS degree in Ecology with the Department of Environmental Biology, SUNY-ESF, Syracuse.
- Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications for this position are a B.S. in ecology, forest science, environmental science, or closely related field; a GPA >3.3 is preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in plant identification and forest vegetation sampling techniques; experience and sensibilities in navigating in remote areas and ability to work long hours under adverse conditions; prior experience conducting independent research; excellent verbal and written communication skills, and quantitative/statistical skills; and ability to work independently and as a productive member of a research team.
